Las Vegas

June 6, Day two in Vegas

Sleep in this morning, only till about 8 am though (pulled down the ‘dark’ blinds which kept the light out) and had the AC on all night.  Stooged around for the morning doing emails, the blog etc and Kim watched Bonanza on TV (!!) then we are off to the pool for a couple of hours.  We were the only ones there for the first hour then another half dozen tourists turned up.  Back for a shower and we are off to the LV North Premium Outlets where we (I) spend a great couple of hours wandering through all the designer shops.  I do manage to come back with a parcel from the Nike shop : )

Didn’t get back to the RV Park in time for Kim to sit by the pool again, it closes at 7pm, even though the sun is still out and hot, but anyway we need a cold drink or two and to put our feet up.

June 7, Day three in Vegas

Another hot one again!  Spent some time sightseeing down the strip this morning, tried to see the exotic car showroom at the Palazzo but it didn’t seem to be exactly open, checked out the Grand Canal Shoppes and the gondolas at The Venetian (it is still amazing even the second time around), the the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood then back to the Circus Circus where we still hadn’t seen the Adventure Dome indoor theme park with it’s 'scary' rollercoaster rides.  We also wandered through the Carnival Midway, which so reminded me of going to the local AP&I Shows back in the day in Levin, they had some of the same games back then.  Timed it right to see one of the circus acts, a young Russian  girl doing an amazing hoolahoop act  with hundreds of the things, she was extremely good and she had a very bendy body.

Kim at The Venetian, the Gondolas have propellers!!

In the afternoon we had a very relaxing couple of hours in the pool and then it was time to head back into town for dinner at Gordon Ramsey’s Pub & Grill (just name dropping – can’t say we saw him in person) at Caesars Palace and then to see Mariah Carey in the Colloseum.  Dinner was great, the show started 30 minutes late but Mariah, bless her had nine costume changes for the two hour long show and look amazing in all of them.  This is the same venue you see at Red Carpet do’s, so I can now say I have seen the steps up to the stage, where they sometimes trip up before making their acceptance speeches.

Mariah Carey was not exactly our first choice, would have also liked to see the Righteous Brothers, but we didn’t know that the headliner acts usually only perform Wednesday to Saturday night.  Jennifer Lopez, The Who, Air Supply and the Jersey Boys are also currently playing Vegas and would you believe it Donny and Marie Osmond – another blast from the past!  Remember watching them on Sunday night TV back in the day?  But I would love to come back here in August when Rod Stewart is playing.

Julie and her new BFF - Mariah
You can do anything in Vegas, drive an exotic car – choose from a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McClaren, Corvette, or Aston Martin etc – for five laps around the LV Motor Speedway for between $250 -$500 or you can have a play at the heavy equipment playground and get behind the wheel of a air conditioned bulldozer or excavator, or go to a machine gun range…

June 8, Goodbye Vegas – hello California

Another hot one today!  Got organised early and on the road, first stop Speedco at the north end of Vegas (right next to the truck wash)  where we book in for grease and oil change service.  Wait for an hour and a half before we get over the pit, but we have the generator on to run the AC so life is good.

We are back on the road by 2 pm-ish and head south west to cross over the state line into California.  There are white clouds in the sky but it doesn't cool down much! We are forced to stop at at Dairy Queen for a icy cold drink, or icecream, or something, to cool us down - the interior AC is not keeping up with the heat outside.

We suss out the options for the night and choose an expensive KOA RV park - because they have a pool and it’s too hot to go any further.  The pool was worth it!
