Utah to Arizona to Nevada

June 3, Friday

Woke early because of the time difference so got organised and leave the Zion National Park heading towards Washington, near St George UT to find our hydraulic hose fixer.  Why isn’t there an ENZED here?  After a couple of false starts we were eventually recommended RV ZZ, not far away so turned upon their doorstep with sad faces : (

Even though it is Friday and they are horrendously busy they take pity on us and fit us in this morning.  They were a very friendly, accommodating team, Rabbit, Stacy and Scott, who was the one who had to get dirty.  The fitting is broken and the hose is split so replacements are organised and 3 hours later and $415 lighter we are back on the road.  It’s hot!  Seriously hot!  We stop at Walmart to buy some more hydraulic fluid ‘cos Kim isn’t convinced of the fix and some more supplies while we are there.  Utah has strict liquor licensing so can’t buy wine at Walmart!!  Can buy light beer though!

We are back on the road mid afternoon and look for a place to stay tonight.  We cross the State Line into the north west corner of Arizona, drive through the Virgin Mountains (awesome scenery once again) and about 20 minutes later we cross the State Line into Nevada.

Virgin Mountains AZ

Hot!!

Our first overnight option looks a bit dodgy so will go with option two, which is the Casa Blanca Casino RV Park, Mesquite NV a couple of miles further.  Thank goodness they have a pool which we immediately head  to, after all it is 115 F out (45 C)!!  Said it was hot!   Anyway the pool is great, busy, lots of people, even more sun loungers (some in the shade) and we spend a very pleasant hour or two there cooling off, but today we have crossed another time zone from Utah with its daylight saving back into AZ and NV which is on Pacific Time, so we don’t really know which way is up.  It must be time for a very, very cold drink and food!

As I write it’s 7 pm local time, shadows are getting longer and the sun is just going off the RV.  They do have some live music here tonight at the Casino, so in an hour or so will wander next door and check it out.  Aha - Kim’s just found we have cable TV.  Maybe we won’t get to the Casino…

Cable TV was dodgy so we did check out the band – The Rye Brothers, formed just recently in 2013, three talented guitar players and a drummer.  They all sang too!.  They started playing Eagles stuff but after their break changed to not so well known stuff (to us) and we called it a night.  Seriously planning to take Rock'nRoll lessons when we get home!

June 4, Saturday, Casa Blanca Casino

Staying another night, it’s going to be another scorcher anywhere here in the Nevada desert area (110 F forecast) so we move to another site which has some shade and have a cruisy day.  Kim is pottering, playing with speaker cables, replacing door handles, fitting paper towel holder - where I want it!  I’ve done the laundry (that was at 6.30 am and it was hot then) and now doing the blog. We have free WIFI at the pool but not here at the RV park.

Spent a couple of hours at the pool until lunch time.  I went back to the water around 3 pm while Kim watched the motor racing on TV with his eyes resting.  It's now 5.35 pm and temperature is  41 C (109 F).
