Coast to Inland Oregon

Tuesday 5 July

Cool night again, sunshine first thing, but disintegrates to cloud cover mid morning.  Bugger it, we are heading inland!   We stop first to take photos of the beach stretching left and right and the ‘Moaning Mini’ we heard all yesterday.

South Beach OR, miles and miles of it

The road inland was a lovely, curvy and tree lined for about 30 miles, the temperature rose from 17C to 22C and then we are in the town of Albany and find a shopping centre.  My mind is off the temperature, now I am in shopping mode but I only manage to come out with just the one parcel - I am losing my touch!

It’s quite refreshing in Oregon, there is no sales tax, so the price on the ticket is what you pay, you don’t get to the counter with the money in your hand and have to scrabble for some more when they ring up the item.

Then we need a Home Store and a Walmart which are close by, before finding the Waterloo Campground where we choose a lovely sunny site for the night.  It’s a beautiful, warm late afternoon so we enjoy our picnic table for a couple of hours before coming in to make some dinner.  I know we often complain that food in America seems to have too much sugar in it for us and is overly sweet but when it comes to sweetcorn, which we had tonight, sweet is very much OK, in fact this sweetcorn is the best I’ve ever tasted.

We have TV tonight and the weather forecast is for shite at the end of the week, rain and cold front.  We’ll just wait and see if it happens.  Might need to spend more time in a shopping mall where it is dry and try and get my mojo back!
