Tacoma and Everett WA

Another beautiful day in Paradise, sun is shining although not warmed up yet.  By the time we get on the road though it is a pleasant 20 C.

We have to drive back south to get across the water to the east side of Seattle but our first stop is the BassPro shop at Tacoma.  These are really cool sports stores, they are also most likely a taxidermist's retirement fund, lots and lots of stuffed wildlife in the entrance foyer and around the walls - elk, deer and moose, bison, bear, beavers, plus birds and fish. I guess if the animal is already dead it is a good thing to recycle them, I enjoyed looking at them anyway. Oh, they also have a huge aquarium with live fish obviously.

So you can buy a Humminbird depth sounder here for $299, (or a huge fancy 12” screen one for $2,600) anyway the same price as we saw in Eugene so we might as well buy it in Oregon where there is no sales tax.  You can buy a brand new flat bottom party boat here from between $20,000 to $48,000 and a ready to go fibreglass runabout with a 150 Merc on the back from around US$30k.  A great place to spend an hour or so dreaming (they also sell women's clothes and shoes).

We haven’t booked anything for tonight so decide to wander up to Everett and check out the Boeing factory anyway.  We arrive about 3.30 pm and find all tours are booked out today and first available tour is 3.30 pm tomorrow so we get our tickets for then and spend an hour or so looking through the exhibits.  It’s is Boeings 100th birthday this year – Happy Birthday Boeing!  We see an Air NZ plane on the tarmac, not sure if it was new or there for service etc.

Kim the Pilot!

It’s after 5pm so we take our leave and drop in at the first RV Park we see, Lakeside RV Park and they can take us for tonight.  The lake is a man made fishing lake, you buy a licence which entitles you to 5 fish!  It’s a busy park and there are lots of comings, not many goings to there is lots to watch.  Kim helps the guy two along get into his site, don’t think he has backed a trailer before.  Another new BFF!
